DANIEL PATRICK GOUSKOS
Dear Highland Park High School Class of 1985,
I am writing to express my sincere appreciation to you for making the Fred Vehon Biggest Heart Scholarship possible. I was honored to learn of my selection for this generous scholarship award.
Although I did not know Fred Vehon personally, I read an article that described him as “one of those unforgettable teammates who personified loyalty, dedication and a big heart”. It speaks volumes that you…his friends, teammates, and classmates…are honoring and preserving Fred Vehon’s legacy with this scholarship. He clearly impacted many lives, and with this scholarship, you have greatly impacted my life.
I am attending the University of Arkansas Walton School of Business in the Fall. This scholarship will greatly help me with my education expenses. I will make the most of this scholarship and strive to the be the kind of person who Fred Vehon would be proud. I look forward to the time when I will be able to help other students achieve their goals just as you have helped me.
Thank you to the Class of 1985!

To the Class of ‘85
The first time I met Mr. Vehon was when I accidentally woke him up from the loudest nap I have ever witnessed. Literally the loudest snoring I’ve ever heard. He woke up with a big smile on his face and greeted me with tons of enthusiasm and friendliness, and I had never even met him before. From this short experience with Mr. Vehon, I could tell how much love filled his big heart.
Looking back at my few experiences with Mr. Vehon, I am filled with a great sense of honor to be the first recipient of this great award and cannot express my gratitude towards whose who helped create this scholarship.
